Euro Cake League 2017 (T4) Hua Hin City FC 1:2 IPE Samut Sakhon

Updated: Dec 21, 2020

This was our last home game of the season, and the script read that we would take another 3 points to make it 12 out of 12. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had different ideas and dumped a deluge of rain onto Takiab Stadium starting about an hour before kick off, and ending about 20 minutes before the final whistle. Footballing skill or talent didn’t have much to play in today’s result. It was a game of bad weather, and strange refereeing decisions.

The first goal, whilst I’m sure Ratchapark will claim it was deliberate, was a mis-hit cross that went into the top left hand corner of the goal. IPE’s equaliser came as the result of a mix up inside of the Hua Hin penalty area (and what looked like a foul on a Hua Hin player).

IPE’s 3rd goal was a lovely strike by Ali M. Unfortunately it was straight past his own keeper, to chalk up an own goal.

The rest of the game was a farce, and would not have gone ahead in the West. Even if it had started, it would most certainly have been abandoned. The ball kept stopping, often not getting anywhere near it’s intended recipient, Tackling in such conditions is very dangerous, and there were some almighty splashes as players on both sides found themselves victims of mis-timed tackles.

It is hard to find many positives from this game. Nobody played badly, but nobody was able to play well. This should have been a close game with good football. Both teams have been experiencing a good run of form. Unfortunately, it was the opposite.

I don’t think we should be disheartened by today. The weather won the day. We should be grateful both teams made it through 90 minutes without picking up any serious injury. Unfortunately, IPE have taken our 6th place.

So that is the end of football at Takiab Stadium for this season. There are still 2 away games to play at BTU and Assumption. The important thing is that Hua Hin City has been transformed from a pretty poor team, into a half decent side, who will seriously challenge for a Champions League position next season.
